Just to add a little info to the H-D helmets.... you're only partially right. Just like any other seller, it's which manufacture will make them to the requested standard and for the best price.

Buell & H-D have had helmets made recently by HJC, KBC, Shoei, and that just the ones I know of and can think of off hand.

Arai have better aftersales service and customer support.

BUT HJC are a comparable quaility and are tested to a greater standard than most other makes of helmet.

Did you also know that HJC are sooo gooood that Harley Davidson get them to manufacture their brand...

Not disagreeing with you, but often you pay more for the following reasons (regardless of the product):

1) Construction materials (weight, durability, finish, etc.)

2) Where it's made and assembled (more expensive to have stuff made in Europe or US versus China or South America)

3) Extras (for motorcycle helmets this includes vents, removable liners, etc.)

4) Number of shell sizes used...important if you have a smaller or larger than normal head

5) Brand Name (some people got to have that NAME)

But as far as a $500+ helmet making you safer than a $100 helmet..well I think the article debunked that myth for the most part.

Personally, I like Icon and Scorpion because each of their customer services have been responsive and courteous to me and they both fall in the middle of the pack on price. I've always wanted to try a Suomy helmet though...
