Joe Rocket Carbon Helmet Review

Whether it is right or wrong, I think most would agree that helmet purchasers are every bit as interested in the way a helmet "looks" as they are concerned with the level of protection that it would provide. Nobody wants to be seen with an ugly melon protector riding around town and it is human nature to want a motorcycle helmet that looks as good as your motorcycle does.

I have good news for those riders who want both a helmet that will protect them when they need it and look fantastic while they doing it. The Joe Rocket Carbon has got to be one of the best looking motorcycle helmets I have ever laid my eyes on. I simply LOVE the styling of this helmet and I think you will too.

Rest assured the Joe Rocket Carbon isn't just a bike night queen helmet. Joe Rocket incorporates the very latest technology to produce a very high tech helmet that will protect your head in the event that your head should need protection. Rest assured that the Joe Rocket Carbon meets or exceeds Snell M2005 and DOT standards and is quite capable of protecting you as good as or better than other helmets on the market.

The Carbon Fiber Shell utilizes 4x4 carbon fiber weave that brings the shell weight to less than 1450 grams. Joe Rocket has also tested the shell design in wind tunnels extensively to produce a very aerodynamic shell that will cut through the wind nicely. If you combine the light weight with the aerodynamics then what you get is a helmet that will be a joy to ride all day long.

Joe Rocket Carbon Fit and Finish

The removable, washable liner is one of the better ones I have seen and incorporates multi-density impact absorbing material that will feel good against your skin and is guaranteed to be comfortable on your head. Joe Rocket uses "North American" standards for shell sizing and shapes which should make for a more comfortable fit on our heads that some of those helmets that utilize a European sizing and style.

The very best of helmets can be neutralized immediately if the ventilation system is not up to par but Joe Rocket hit a home run here with what they call a Quad Port ventilation system that features 4 external ports and 6 internal ports that will keep the air flowing in and around your head, making for a much more comfortable ride.

Joe Rocket Carbon Comfort

The Joe Rocket Carbon offers a removable and adjustable padding that allows you to customize the fit of the helmet to your head somewhat as well. Even though this is a common feature at this price range, it is nice to know that the helmet can be tweaked slightly to adjust to individual heads.

Yet another great feature that should be mentioned is that the visor is 95% UV resistant which will protect you from teh suns glare and I personally found this shield to be dark enough to reduce the glare but not so much so that I sacrificed any visibility or safety. The clarity of the screen is excellent and I had no trouble seeing out of my peripheral vision in this helmet.

Joe Rocket also uses a quick release visor design that will allow you to change the visor very simply. You only need to open it, hit the release and the visor will come right off. Reinstallation is slightly trickier but after 2 or 3 tries it became a piece of cake. No tools are necessary either, which is a great feature.

Joe Rocket Carbon Summary

I have to tell you that I don't have much riding time on this helmet yet but initial impressions are that this will quickly become one of my favorites. The helmet just screams cool and I am a huge fan of the carbon fiber look so while that may be vein, it's reality.

The Joe Rocket Carbon fits my XL sized head quite well, it's quiet and after a few hours of riding the helmet still feels great and fatigue is almost non existent. If you are in the market for a new helmet and the carbon fiber look is one that you like then I would strongly suggest you give the Joe Rocket Carbon helmet a good look.
